POWERED MOBILE EQUIPMENT:
A TRUSTED COMPANION IN THE ISM TRADE

Technological advancements in the construction industry have drastically increased production from workers in the field. One such advancement has been Powered Mobile Equipment, a.k.a. Aerial Lift Platforms & Scissor Lifts. These machines allow workers to reach various heights at a fraction of the time when compared to manually assembled scaffolds.

Keep the following points in mind before recruiting Powered Mobile Equipment as a member of your team:

  • A worker must not operate Powered Mobile Equipment unless they have been trained by a competent individual assigned by their employer.
  • Seat belts/harnesses must be worn by personnel operating Powered Mobile Equipment. This includes any passenger that may be on the machine.
  • Before operating Powered Mobile Equipment, the operator must perform a walk-around inspection on the equipment as well as the job-site. Specialized forms to fill out are provided by ARC Interiors Ltd.
  • When leaving the equipment to go for a break, a visual (non-documented) inspection must be performed before commencing work again.

To learn more about Powered Mobile Equipment and the regulations that apply, refer to the guide to Alberta's OH&S act, regulation and code.
