POWDER ACTUATED TOOLS:
CRITICAL TO THE ISM TRADE

The impact that powder actuated tools have on the ISM trade is substantial. Productivity has drastically been increased since the introduction of these critical tools many years ago. Keep the following points in mind before using one of these effective, yet dangerous tools:

GENERAL:

  • Avoid placing hands or fingers over the front muzzle end of the tool. Serious injury could arise from accidental discharge.
  • Personal safety gear must be worn at all times. Serious eye injury or hearing loss could occur if the proper gear is not worn.
  • Always hold the tool perpendicular to the work surface to avoid serious injury or death caused by ricocheting fasteners.
  • Fasteners & power loads should never be carried in the same pocket. The loads could be set off resulting in grave physical injury.
  • Never fire the tool into very hard or brittle materials such as cast iron, tile, glass or rock. These materials have the ability to shatter, causing sharp fragments to fly freely.
  • Always store the tool unloaded, under lock & key. The loads should be securely stored as well.
  • The tool should never be pointed at anyone, whether loaded or unloaded.
  • If the tool is not firing correctly, take it out of service immediately. Doing so may prevent injury to yourself or a fellow co-worker.
