PROPANE: HEAVIER THAN AIR.
AND DEADLY

Propane has two basic sides; good and evil. The good side of propane allows people to barbeque food, heat buildings, and operate machinery. With propane's evil side comes hurt, pain, and potentially excessive suffering when this effective yet deadly gas is mishandled or misused. Be mindful of the following points before using propane in your personal or work life:

  • Regulators must be installed before hooking a tank up for service
  • While using or transporting, a tank should securely be held in an upright position
  • Tanks should never be heated to increase the flow of gas
  • Only competent people should handle propane
  • All trucks, cranes, or equipment used to handle propane tanks should be equipped with a fire extinguisher of the appropriate size
  • Tank valves and regulators should be removed from the tank prior to any movement
  • Nylon slings should be used in a "choker" fashion when loading, un-loading, or lifting propane tanks

As you can see, propane can easily be considered both a friend and a foe. Most people have only seen the good side of propane, and with this good side comes an increase in the overall quality of human-life. Unfortunately, some people have also come face-to-face with propane's evil side, and they are likely to feel the repercussions, both physically and emotionally, for the remainder of their valuable lives.
